Miles2Smile is happy to announce the graduation of their diploma students in Urdu-Arabic calligraphy. The event took place at Hunar Academy on July 6, 2024. The chief guests of the event were Mr Aasif Mujtaba, founder of Miles2Smile, and Mr Waseem, the renowned calligrapher.
Miles2Smile believes in giving a platform to the artist and preserving the art of Urdu- Arabic calligraphy. To accomplish this, it regularly conducts Urdu-Arabic calligraphy classes for budding artists. These integrated classes, which transform the skills of students into masterpieces, are conducted at Hunar Academy under the mentorship of Hafiz Mohd. Waseem.
Mr Waseem epitomises Urdu-Arabic calligraphy with 40 glorious years of experience in hand lettering. With the aim to promote the beauty of this art, Miles2Smile launched its flagship programme, ‘Khattati’ on December 2, 20220
Khattati promotes Urdu Arabic calligraphy through various trainings, workshops and programmes. To promote applied arts and calligraphy among wider public Miles2Smile set up a stall at Jash-e-Rekhta every year.
Miles2Smile is elated to announce that they were able to graduate 15 artists in a short span of six months. Each student, a budding calligrapher, leant to make flawless strokes with the aid of ‘Qalam’ and ink.
The event flagged off with a motivational speech by Mr. Aasif Mujtaba, congratulating students on their achievements. He said, “The event is not conducted just to give certificates but to acknowledge the resilience of students.” To revive the history of Art, he urged the artists to utilise their untapped potential and recreate the charm of Urdu-Arabic calligraphy, which is dying in the storm of the digital world.
Rekindling the desire to achieve greater heights, he asked students to pursue their passion and give a higher pedestal to their talent. Commenting on the statement, Mr. Wasmeen said, “Talents are not meant to be kept under shadow; they are there to shine and reach heights.”
Following the speech, a felicitation ceremony took place to acknowledge the expertise of the students and give them a sense of contentment. Expressing her happiness, Farheen, a student of the course said, “We learned different scripts like Thuluth, Naskh, Jadidarbi, Nasta’alikh flawlessly.
”Learning was fun.” Habiba, another student, added. Miles2Smile aims to create an environment for students where learning is interactive and creative. With happiness in his eyes, Kamran said, “I learned the entire Huruf e Hijja (Urdu Arabic alphabets) in a short span of 45 days.”
With the desire to empower these budding calligraphers, Mr Aasif Mujtaba motivated them to create a masterpiece and sell them on our Smile Store. Emphasising on the significance of empowerment, he urged them to use their talents and create a legacy.
With the aid of this extensive 6-month diploma, each student learnt the beauty of calligraphy. With meticulous attention to each detail, Mr. Waseem helped students create a magnificent piece.
