Braving the adversity of life, a batch of 15 resilient women, with their steady determination are often found stitching garments at ‘Sabaat’ located in Shiv Vihar. These women who fearlessly endured the Delhi Pogrom 2020 are time and again engaged in uplifting their skills with the support of Miles2Smile. Miles2Smile is an organisation incorporated to help survivors of Delhi Pogrom 2020 and provide relief to the victims of other violence.
On the auspicious occasion of Eid ul Adha, Sabaat’s women are engaged in stitching 250 kurtas for men. And will trade them to beautify the Eid. These kurtas are beautifully tailored with quality fabric, taking care of details that are often missing in machine-made kurtas. Miles2Smile provided all the materials required to make the garments. We ensured everything is made with proper care and of good quality.
The income generated from the sale of these kurtas will directly support the women who tailored them, allowing them to achieve financial stability and contribute to their families. With the incorporation of this initiative, these women will celebrate Eid with happiness and hope.
Why was Sabaat Incorporated?
The ‘Sabaat‘ initiative is one of the initiatives by MIles2Smile to empower women, particularly those who have faced hardship, such as the victims of the Northeast Delhi Pogrom 2020 and other underprivileged women. It was established with the dual purpose of helping those affected by the Shiv Vihar riots and empowering other marginalized women.
Through the Stitching Centre, we offer a range of courses tailored to the needs of underprivileged women. These courses provide vocational skills, including stitching, tailoring, nail art and more. Aiming to Keep these women at par with the society, we help them in inculcating the skills required. We organise various training workshops to make them learn easily.
Additionally, we also provide training in Entrepreneurship Development, Personality Development, Small Business Accounting, Financial Literacy, Soft skills and health & hygiene. The women who complete the training at the centre will have the opportunity to work on the various projects of the organization, including producing garments for sale or contributing to the production of goods for other NGOs or businesses.
To support the women in attaining stable health, we have embarked on a mission to provide them monthly sanitary pads , nutritious food and iron capsules. These help them live a healthy life and work with proper concentration.
By teaching valuable skills, Sabaat helps these women to attain financial independence, building a brighter future for themselves and their families. Sabaat is dedicated to empower these women and give them a sense of belonging. Knowing the significance of Women Empowerment, Miles2Smile constantly introduces new skill development activities to the Sabaat.
From time to time, Miles2Smile has organised various events to boost the confidence of these women. One such event is Sabaat’s Anniversary celebrated on March 2, 2023. The anniversary stood as a symbol of hope and a year long hard work. At the event, survivors from Shiv Vihar were in attendance and received thoughtful hampers from Miles2Smile. The small gestures helped them to feel the space in society.
The event highlighted the courage of the survivors of Delhi Pogrom 2020 and other traumatizing events. One such courageous man was Wakeel, a survivor of an acid attack who has unfortunately lost his eyesight. Despite his challenges, he expressed gratitude towards the organization with heartfelt affirmations and prayers.
During the event, the trainees at Sabaat were honoured with certifications for successfully completing their stitching, acknowledging their exceptional efficiency throughout the one-year course. As a gesture of recognition for their dedication and hard work, some of them were presented with sewing kits.
At Sabaat Center, we provide top notch quality sewing equipment, ensuring efficiency and greater output in production. We help these women grow and learn each day. The Stitching Centre is a result of Miles2Smile’s commitment to empowering women and creating opportunities for them. By offering vocational training and skill development.
