A large cohort of students gathered at the halls of Jamia Syed Abid Husain School, Jamia Middle School and Jamia Senior Secondary School to attend the ‘Urdu and Arabic Calligraphy Workshop’, called khattati, organised by ‘Hunar Academy in collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia.
Khattati is a flagship programme that was launched by Miles2Smile on December 2, 2022, to promote the beauty of Urdu and Arabic Calligraphy. These comprehensive classes that transform the skills of students into mesmerising masterpieces take place at Hunar Academy, Shaheen Bagh by Hafiz. Mohd. Wasee. Mr Waseem is a renowned expert in calligraphy. He epitomises Urdu and Arabic calligraphy with forty plus years of dedicated experience with Delhi Urdu Academy. Khattati aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, fostering a future ready generation of young people.
The workshop lasted for four days, dated April 29, and May 1, at Syed Abid Husain School & Jamia Senior Secondary School and May 2, and May 3 at the Jamia Middle School. It aimed to elucidate upon the imperative role that Urdu and Arabic plays with respect to the art of calligraphy.
More than 150 creative students took part in the workshop, which flagged off with the distribution of ‘Bamboo Qalam’ for calligraphy, an ink pot and paper to assist the participants in implementing what all they learn throughout the workshop.
All the participants unfolded their untapped potentials and crafted their names utilizing horizons of Urdu and Arabic Calligraphy. They learnt ways to design the huroof-ul-hijjah ( alphabets of Arabic and Urdu) under the mentorship of Hafiz Mohd. Waseem.
With the aid of this extensive workshop, each of its participants learnt the beauty of Calligraphy. Unequivocally, Mr. Salah Uddin, Director of Okhla Centre , Hunar Academy, extended his unwavering support in the success of the programme.
Concluding the workshop, a felicitation ceremony decked up the day of the budding calligraphers, which activated with the melodious recitation of the Quran, a way to thank the Almighty for the successful completion of the workshop. This ceremony was held at the auditorium of Syed Abid Husain School.
Post recitation of the Quran, the guests were honoured with saplings, to celebrate the time spent during the course of the events. Following this, certificates were distributed among all the participants, by Mr. Aasif Mujtab (Founder and Director, Miles2Smile), Dr. Mohd. Arshad (Principal JSSS), Mr.Qutub Uddin (Vice- Principal, JSSS), Dr. Mohd. Mustafa Khan (Co-ordinator), Ms. Rubina Khatoon (TGT Urdu), Dr. Maqsoodul Hasan (PGT Arabic), and Mr Ataur Rahman (PGT Chemistry), ensuring upliftment of student’s motivation and interest in Urdu and Arabic hand lettering. Verily, their dedication paid off!
To further motivate the students, Mr. Mujtaba delivered a motivational speech and shed light on the significance of skills development at young age. He further talked about the role of khattati and Hunar Academy in upgrading the skills that are needed besides academics.
The event proceeded with , Dr. Mohd Arshad khan highlighted the essence of the art of calligraphy thereby, spreading motivation among students to engage themselves in art.
