On 26th August 2025, the picturesque yet remote Warwan Valley in Kashmir was struck by a sudden and devastating flash flood. The floodwaters, triggered by torrential rains, swept through villages, destroying homes, washing away belongings, and leaving many families stranded in vulnerable conditions. Due to the valley’s seclusion, connectivity with nearby towns is limited, and immediate government relief reached the region slowly, leaving residents largely unsupported in the initial aftermath.

Urgent Need for Shelter

For families whose homes were partially or completely damaged, shelter became an immediate and pressing concern. While the government distributed tarpaulin sheets, they proved insufficient for the valley’s harsh climate. The delicate sheets can not withstand cold winds, heavy snowfall, or persistent rainfall, leaving families exposed to the elements.

Recognizing this urgent need, Miles2Smile intervened by distributing high-quality, durable tarpaulin sheets designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. This intervention ensured that families could stay protected and maintain a basic sense of safety and dignity amid challenging circumstances.

For those whose homes were completely destroyed, the living situation remained extremely precarious. Many residents spent their days in temporary tents, retreating to rented accommodations at night to escape the increasing cold. To alleviate this hardship, Miles2Smile provided 16 high-quality tents, offering secure and temporary shelter to the most affected families and ensuring protection against cold, snow, and rain.

Comprehensive Aid Beyond Shelter

Miles2Smile’s relief efforts went beyond shelter. Residents received ration kits, hygiene products, warm clothing, and healthcare support, addressing both immediate survival needs and the long-term wellbeing of families. Medical interventions were also provided, with urgent care for injuries and health concerns caused by the flood.
