Miles2Smile Foundation has always been a front runner in providing a helping hand to any public initiative and community service. Continuing this tradition, on Monday, October 9, Miles2Smile’s Hunar Academy joined hands with a dental care specialists team from Jamia Millia Islamia to host a free dental checkup program for underprivileged students at our learning facility.
Hunar Academy is a transformative initiative devoted to closing the education-employment gap. The occasion wasn’t just a medical outreach, it was also an important step in raising a knowledgeable and prepared generation in underdeveloped areas.
Hunar Academy’s Mission and Initiatives
Miles2Smile’s Hunar Academy operates with a profound vision — to empower underprivileged communities by cultivating young leaders and changemakers. The foundation’s commitment is evident through their comprehensive courses tailored to impart practical skills and entrepreneurial opportunities. A pivotal moment in this journey was their collaboration with three prominent Madarsas: Madarsa Jamia Zia-ul Huda, Madarsa Jamia Rahma-tul-lil-Alameen, and Madarsa Maahadul Quran.
This collaboration heralded the introduction of basic computer classes, a significant stride in equipping children from these Madarsas with indispensable skills and entrepreneurial avenues. The courses weren’t just about education; they were about providing tools for a brighter, self-reliant future.
Following the completion of the course, a stringent selection process was employed to identify 7 to 10 children displaying exceptional analytical skills and potential in programming and software development. This bespoke approach exemplified the foundation’s commitment to nurturing talent and paving pathways for success in underprivileged communities.
The Dental Checkup Program
On October 9, 2023, Hunar Academy, in collaboration with Jamia’s dental team, organized a free dental checkup program for the children of the Madarsas. The dental team, with their expertise and dedication, conducted thorough dental checkups, ensuring the oral health of each child was assessed and taken care of. The Doctors individually guided each and every student according to their Dental Problems and treatments. They also highlighted the importance of Oral Hygiene and Cleanliness and about the eating patterns and food choices which could probably cause tooth decay in kids.
Moreover, the dental team went a step further. Each child was provided with a special card, a card for ongoing dental care. This card entitled the children to two free visits to the Jamia dental hospital, ensuring that their oral health remained a priority even after the event concluded.
Empowering Through Awareness
Post-checkups, an engaging awareness session was conducted. The awareness session was on what is Oral Hygiene. We asked about Do’s and Don’ts of Oral Hygiene Care. We discussed the daily routine of Oral Hygiene Care. The children were educated about the importance of good oral hygiene and taught what practices were beneficial and detrimental to their teeth. This session wasn’t just about imparting knowledge; it was about empowering these young minds with the understanding necessary for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
The joint efforts of Miles2Smile’s Hunar Academy and Jamia’s dental team demonstrated the power of community-driven initiatives. It wasn’t just a dental checkup program, it showcased the power of working together to support, empower, and change lives.
As these kids walked away with smiles and valuable knowledge, it was clear that initiatives like this were not just addressing immediate needs but also laying the foundation for a future where every child possesses the resources to thrive and the belief in their ability to achieve great things.
