What began as an idea during Miles2Smile’s relief visit at Jammu and Kashmir, 2025, has flourished into a room full of happy faces, eager to learn each day—the classroom at the Wahid Ali Memorial Center of Learning. The center of learning, inaugurated in Basmina, Warwan, in the aftermath of one of the most “devastating” landslides and twin cloudbursts in August 2025, J&K, has unfolded a new chapter in their educational journey.

On 18th April, 2026, the learning center conducted its first report card distribution ceremony, celebrating the dedication and hard work of students. This press release aims to share the happiness and motivation of the students as they receive their very first report cards.
Nestled in the mesmerizing Basmina Village, the Wahid Ali Memorial Learning Center aims to educate nearly 100 students from economically weak sections of society. Inaugurated on December 11, 2025, the center has been a happy dwelling for its students who pave their way towards a better future under the guidance of educator Naima. In the last four months, through the combined efforts of students and teachers with the support of Miles2Smile, the center has transformed students into learners.

These efforts were acknowledged through a facilitation ceremony where report cards were distributed to students, reflecting their efforts, determination, and consistency.
Students and teachers gathered at the center, eager to see the fruits their efforts have borne, stepping up on the stage to receive the report card on being called.
“These students have just not cleared their exams but have also proved that when efforts are put in, results are always beyond satisfactory,” said Aasif Mujtaba, Founder & Director, Miles2Smile.
“Seeing these students growing each day instills satisfaction in my heart, motivating me to work even harder,” says Educator Nameema.
“I am extremely excited to enter a new class and learn new things,” a student added.

Meanwhile, parents too extended their gratitude towards the development of their children.
“I can’t thank Lord enough for the learning center; it has shown me a glimmer of hope for the bright future of my child,” a parent said.
The event concluded on a merry tone with smiles on the faces of everyone present and a fresh determination instilled in students to work towards betterment.
